Why consumables can become AOG problems
Aircraft consumables look simple until the details matter. A maintenance team may need a specific sealant class, application life, cartridge size, batch, shelf life or technical document. Some lines may be dangerous goods, which can affect freight timing and destination options.

The information to send first
- Exact part number, product name or manufacturer reference
- Quantity and unit of measure
- Pack size or acceptable pack-size alternatives
- Required date and delivery country
- Whether the aircraft, job or production task is stopped

- Any approved specification, AMM, CMM, drawing or internal material reference
- Whether alternates can be quoted

Weak RFQ: Need PR1428 urgently. Quote stock.
Better RFQ: Please quote PPG PR1428 B-2, 100 ml Semkit, quantity 20. Delivery to United Kingdom, required this week. Please confirm CoC, SDS, TDS, batch and remaining shelf life. Alternates not allowed unless approved separately.
The second version tells the supplier what to check. It reduces back-and-forth and makes the quote more useful to the buyer.
Example: primer, activator or coating material RFQ
For coatings and related materials, include the full product reference and the system context where possible: primer, topcoat, activator, thinner or cleaner name, manufacturer part number, pack size, matching components, SDS, dangerous goods requirements, shelf life and destination.
Documentation can be the bottleneck
For urgent aerospace materials, stock is only one part of the answer. The buyer may also need proof that the product can be accepted into stores and used under the relevant process.
If the supplier can confirm availability but cannot confirm the document pack, the requirement may still be blocked. Use ADG's AOG RFQ checklist for a broader urgent-request structure.
